CHU to the Rescue!

Community Helpers Unite operates three kitchens, providing 25,000 to 28,000 meals per month. These meals are distributed to 13 different community walk groups and individuals. In addition, the organization runs a hamper program from a warehouse on Jarvis Avenue to support social service outreach workers and address concerns from Child and Family Services.

Recently, Brandy Bobier received an unexpected call from a Bear Clan driver informing her that the food bank was permanently closing, leaving her astonished. However, Bobier quickly organized regular food bank pickups within three hours.

As a result of the closure, the program was relocated to the Andrews Street Family Centre, prompting North End food banks to come together and fill the gap left by the Bear Clan Food service closure.

The goal is to “ensure the least amount of disruption in that food landscape,” Bobier (CHU CEO) said.
